In order to cut cost within the USS Oriskany Association in the future why not put the Newsletter on-line. This cuts the cost of mailing the Newletter to everyone. If is not put on-line create a PDF and Document file and email it out to everyone that is a member of the USS Oriskany Association. If emailed it does not have to be sent to anyone who is not up to date on their dues. If you do not get the newsletter emailed to you it is up to you as a member to ensure that you have a correct email on file and that your dues are up to date. :D

I made those same suggestions Claire. They are sending out Newsletters by email in pdf format now...but, you have to request it.

Send an email to Karen at the Museum so she can put you on the email list. Be sure you put Oriskany Newsletter in your email title.

According to Mark Parrish, they don't want to put Newsletters online (including past issues) because they put new member information in them (address etc) and the ORA financial statement. I also suggested to them that that information could be left out of the Newsletter and delivered to members in a seperate way. When I suggested Newsletters online could be placed on a secure webpage that required a password to access, the response I got was that hackers could still get by that.

I'm also a bit disappointed that no one has commented here on the recent ORA reunion in Pensacola other than Jim.

I spoke with Mark about these issues at the reunion - as a fairly net savy guy, I'm all for going electronic. Mark did however have some very valid points including what Gene posted and some others. I'm satisfied with his response- they're not totally against the idea, it's just not time yet.

I have made a request to Karen for the Oriskany newsletter in pdf form emailed to me.
I will look at it and see just how much information they really have in it. ie. new members, financial report, etc.
From what you reported Doc there seens to be a conflict in what is being done. If new member information and Ora financial data is in the newsletter being sent via email they sure could cut out mailing the newsletter and save that cost.
I will report back when I get the next newsletter as to what all is in it.

Hope everyone has a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. :D :D :D

:D I have just gotten my first copy of the Oriskany news letter and as I said that i would report.
It has the names, address, phone numbers, and email address of new members as well as the officers of the ORA. in the news letter.
So back at you Mark Parrish what the big deal about sending only the news letter by email and save on the postage? :D
