Why Oriskany?

USS Oriskany served the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1976 and was intentionally sunk off Florida in 2006 to become an artificial reef. Its journey connects people, technology, historical memory and the marine world—the subjects this journal explores.

Oriskany Maritime Journal is an independent publication about maritime history and coastal life. It does not own private collections about the ship and is not affiliated with the U.S. Navy or the Oriskany Museum.

How we report

Our launch stories are researched features, not claims of breaking events. We link to original records and agencies where possible, distinguish archival images from contemporary photographs, and avoid inventing sources or firsthand interviews. Dates on stories indicate when these new articles were published.
